Where are we today as a society? How optimistic or pessimistic is the outlook? Are we happy? Is life getting easier? Do we have great things to look forward to? Are we on the brink of environmental catastrophe? Do we trust the institutions that are there to help us?
It isn’t looking good, is it?
We all have differing perspectives; we want different things and have different experiences which shape our views and beliefs. These are fundamentally some of our greatest assets; we can get together agree, disagree, debate, compromise and so on. However, it seems that these days we’re rather tribal and that is stopping us from hearing each other. I like to think this is where we come in.
We all have valid opinions and so instead of shutting down discussion we promote it, but in a healthier way. Promoting a more sensible way to discuss might mean we get to a solution faster, cutting out all the noise and trolling which is almost inevitable these days.
Imagine discussing a subject with a stranger, you’re both on opposite sides of the argument and have strong views. As we see on TV, radio and social media these frequently end in scathing partisan and at times offensive posts. What if we brought it down from a 10 to a 3? Instead of escalating we listened. The response is simple:
